The P.E.O. Sisterhood
Philanthropic Educational Organization

Where Women Motivate, Educate and Celebrate Women

Welcome to P.E.O.  We are a Sisterhood of women who are purposeful and passionate aboout celebrating, supporting and motivating women.  Our mission is to help women around the world advance through education.

P.E.O. does not discriminate against any woman based on age, ethnicity, religion or education. Our sisterhood is based on friendship and mutual respect.  P.E.O. is not political nor is it a political action group.  Individually, each member may work for causes of her choice outside of P.E.O. As sisters, we respect one another's political and/or religious views and activities.  We meet to support each other for fellowship and for the common and united purpose of assisting women reach their educational goals.
Educational support is at the heart of everything we do.  Check out our opportunities for all the scholarships, awards, and loans to support women in all fields of study and at all levels after high school.


P.E.O. Projects and Philanthropy

Through scholarship, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College, our Sisterhood proudly offers unwavering support to deserving women from all walks of life.  P.E.O. is passionate about its mission to promote educational opportunities for women.  Our sisterhood proudly makes a difference in women's lives with philanthropic opportunities in addition to providing scholarships for Cottey College.  The P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund (ELF) was established in 1907 to lend money to qualified women students in need of financial assistance to secure a certificate or degree in higher education.  The maximum loan amounts are $12,000 for an accredited non-degree program or an associate degree; $15,000 for bachelor’s degree programs; $20,000 for master’s degree programs; and $25,000 for doctoral degree programs.  Applicants for the ELF Loan Fund must be recommended by Chapter AP.  

 The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) was established in 1949 to provide scholarships for women from other countries pursuing a graduate degree in the United States or Canada. The maximum award amount is $12,500.  

 The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (PCE) was established in 1973 to provide need-based grants to women in the United States and Canada whose education has been interrupted, finding it necessary to return to school to complete a degree or certification.  By doing so, they improve their marketable skills for employment to support themselves and/or their families. The maximum grant award amount is $4,000.  

 The P.E.O. Scholar Awards (PSA) were established in 1991 to provide substantial merit-based awards for women in the United States and Canada who are pursuing a doctoral-level degree at an accredited college or university. The maximum award amount is $25,000.  

 The P.E.O. Star Scholarship (STAR) was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the United States or Canada in the next academic year.  The award amount is $2,500. 

Cottey College, a nationally ranked, fully accredited, independent, liberal arts and sciences college for women located in Nevada, Missouri, has been owned/supported by P.E.O. since 1927 and offers baccalaureate degrees in a variety of majors. Cottey College, a debt-free institution, welcomes women from around the world.

 The P.E.O. Chapter AP Scholarship was established in 2023 to provide scholarships for deserving women in Mesquite, Nevada attending or planning to attend a trade school, two-year or four-year college.   The award amount is $1,000.
